Diamond Bakery is a Jewish bakery in the Fairfax District that has been churning out glossy challah since the 1940s. The white and blue shop is known for its rye bread, chewy pretzels that make the ones from  AMC look like cardboard, and lots of little, sprinkle-covered cookies that are asking to be dunked into hot coffee (they have that, too.) Make sure to grab one of their spinach boreks on the way out.
