This old-school San Fernando shop and restaurant is a neighborhood staple for all your tortilla needs, from pounds of fresh masa to handmade tortillas sold by the dozen. But once you walk up to the counter to order your groceries, it’s impossible not to make eye contact with the hot bar full of crispy chicharrones and rich guisados. Let’s assume the obvious––you’re probably going to get something to eat.

The menu is extensive and hits pretty much every Mexican comfort food imaginable, from murky bowls of menudo to an all-day breakfast menu with chilaquiles rojos, to the lunch counter’s best seller: gargantuan burritos. The table mat-sized flour tortillas are on the thicker side and wonderfully chewy. Our go-to order is their popular pork chile verde: the tart, spicy stew is 80% tender pork chunks that collapse the moment you sink your teeth in.
