Let’s address the obvious: April 90s Something has a confusing name. It sounds like a millennial trying to hide their age to get an AMC student discount. This barebones Thai spot in Silver Lake has solid tom yum and som tum and more fusion-y things, like fried chicken kra pow. There are some vaguely throwback elements at play here, like the neon color scheme, playlists that teleport you back to Warped Tour, and the use of canned pineapple rings in some dishes (when’s the last time you saw those?)

Nothing at April 90s Something will offend you, but the food isn’t anything revolutionary. The som tum is spicy and refreshing, and the sweet pineapple curry has a nice chili kick to balance out the coconut milk and canned pineapple. If you live in the area and want an easy Thai option for walk-ins or you couldn’t get a reservation next door at Pijja Palace, this strip mall restaurant is a solid choice.
