It’s the final weekend before Christmas, so if you want to get out there and explore the city a bit before 2022, now’s the time to do it. There are a plethora of winter markets for all your gift-buying needs, some high-end sushi collaborations, and even holiday pie pop-ups so you can be the real hero on December 25th.
The Events
Taking place on Saturday, December 18th at The Hilda L. Solis Learning Academy, The Queer Mercado is the first of its kind in East LA. The market/festival runs from 10am-4pm and will feature drag performances, live dancing, various food stalls, local art, and other queer-owned vendors. Entry is free.
This popular cafe and bakery in Frogtown just released its holiday menu that’s now available for pre-orders through December 22nd. The options include everything from assorted cookie boxes to brioche dinner rolls to double crust apple lattice pie. Pick-up is from December 22nd-24th and all ordering is done here.
Paper Please Shop in Chinatown is throwing a Treasure Party: Holiday Edition this Friday, December 17th from 4-8pm. Participating vendors include Angry Egret, Pearl River Deli, Steep LA, and more. There will also be complimentary holiday treats and drinks, as well as a free massage card with every gift wrap purchase.
If that end-of-year bonus has you looking to celebrate in a big way, head to Sushi I-niba. From December 31st to January 2nd, the tremendous Manhattan Beach sushi bar is collaborating with Sushi Kaneyoshi for a one-of-a-kind, exclusive omakase experience. Seating is at 7pm each night and will cost $500 per person. Reservations can be made here starting Wednesday, December 15th, but considering there are only 10 seats a night, they’re probably going to go fast.
Nonprofit organization Translatin@ Coalition is hosting its annual holiday party this Thursday, December 16th from 6-8pm in Koreatown. The event will include food, games, live performances, gifts, a raffle, and more.
