Oscar Movie Pairings: Sound Of Metal + Honey’s Kettle Fried Chicken
What to eat while you watch Riz Ahmed gives one of the best performances of the year.

Is it possible for a movie to be nominated for Best Picture and still be underrated? Sound Of Metal makes a great case. This film about a heavy metal drummer grappling with the effects of sudden hearing loss hasn’t garnered as much buzz as other Best Picture nominees, but it’s easily among my top three favorite films of the year. Riz Ahmed spent a year learning both sign language and how to play the drums for this role, and gives a performance that illustrates the systemic bias surrounding ableism in this country. And while a good dinner pairing could go a number of ways here, we’re going with low-hanging fruit and choosing drumsticks from Honey’s Kettle. This classic Culver City spot makes some of our favorite chicken in LA with super crispy skin that crackles under each bite and is coated in a sweet and spicy sauce you’ll be licking from your fingers all night.
