Dear Infatuation: A Valentine’s Day Restaurant Advice Column

Dear Infatuation,

OK, I did the thing I said I wouldn’t do this year and waited until the last minute to plan something. Are there any good places that still have reservations?

Thanks,

Cutting It Close

Dear Cutting It Close,

We’re not going to sugarcoat it, reservations are scarce. At the time of writing, there are a few tickets left for Alta Adam’s Valentine’s Day dinner, four-course prix fixe for two, which costs $97.50 per person. Redbird, a high-end Downtown LA restaurant housed in an abandoned church, has a few seats left for their Valentine’s Day prix fixe. Tickets for that are $148 per person, where you’ll enjoy three courses of dishes like beef heart tartare, chawanmushi, BBQ smoked tofu, and bacon-wrapped saddle of rabbit.

But that’s pretty much it, unless your date is so cool, they’d be down for Dave & Buster’s Hollywood.

Another choice is the walk-in route, a far riskier option—one with great rewards (dinner at one of the best restaurants in town), but could totally backfire on you (hour-long waits, your date gets fed up and leaves your ass, etc). The choice is yours. Here are a few restaurants that don’t take reservations, or have a few tables/bar seats specially reserved for walk-ins: Majordomo, Found Oyster, L&E Oyster, Sun Nong Dan, Ceviche Project, The Old Place, and Jones Hollywood. Good luck.

XOXO,The Infatuation LA ❤️
