How is it already August? The end of the summer is rapidly approaching, we’re still trying to process our many feelings about Nope, and we need to pack our calendar with ice cream socials, night markets, and scavenger hunts, stat. Here’s seven exciting pop-ups and events happening this weekend.

Chinatown teahouse Steep is hosting a Summer Night Market this Saturday, August 6th from 5-9pm. There will be food, drink, art, and home goods vendors, including Angry Egret Dinette, Thank You Coffee, Psychic Wines, Paper Plant Co., Gu Grocery, and much more.

Cuties, a Black-owned community space for queer folks in LA, is hosting a free ice cream social this Friday, August 5th at Sorry Not Sorry in West LA. It’s in collaboration with the upcoming Amazon Studios show, A League of Their Own, and there will be DJs, photobooths, and a 1940’s theme.

The game is afoot—from now until Saturday, August 27th, you can participate in Prosperity Market’s LA Black Business Scavenger Hunt. The city-wide search features over 50 local Black-owned businesses, and clues can be found using a treasure map on their website. Earn points by visiting participating businesses, snapping a picture, and posting. Winners will receive prizes at Prosperity Market’s pop-up on Saturday, August 27th.

On Thursday, August 4th, one of our favorite bakeries in Long Beach, Gusto Bread, is hosting Poncho’s Tlayudas from 12-5pm. Expect to feast on the traditional Oaxacan snack made with blue and yellow corn tortillas filled with blood sausage, and more.

Lunetta is throwing a Chill & Grill party on Saturday, August 6th from 12:30-4pm. There will be a live DJ, lawn games, frozen cocktails, and summer snacks like grilled sliders, sausages, ceviche, Aztec ribs, and more. Tickets are sold in tiers and cost between $30-$275.

Celebrate Día del Pescador, or Day of the Fisherman, with a seafood festival at Socalo in Santa Monica. It’s going down on Friday, August 5th from 6-8pm, with a huge mariachi band, tiki cocktails, and small plates like grilled octopus, Peruvian ceviche, and scallop crudo.

Persian pop-up Azizam will be at Pearl River Deli on Tuesday, August 9th with a fun summer menu. There will be kotlet, a beef and potato croquette, with pickled cabbage, yogurt with cucumbers, walnuts, and golden raisins, plus saffron and rose ice cream sandwiches. Catch them in Chinatown at 5pm.
Dive bars, breweries, Tiki spots, speakeasies, and more—these are the best places to grab a drink in Long Beach.
