Welcome to Perfect For, an Infatuation series of ultra-specific restaurant recommendations from people around town you don't know personally, but might wish you did.
Diplo’s music career can best be described as “booked and busy.” The DJ and producer has worked with just about every artist you can think of (and then some). As if collaborating with Beyonce, Bad Bunny, and Kali Uchis wasn’t enough, he also released a country-inspired album on April 28th, Thomas Wesley: Chapter 2 – Swamp Savant. When he’s not busy making new music or trying to stay cool during a festival set in the desert, you can find him at his favorite Malibu spots for burritos, inflation-afflicted smoothies, and places where you can hear peacocks screaming while you eat.
"Lily's is probably the best burrito in LA to me. Maybe I just live here too much, but it's this amazing burrito spot."
"SunLife is where you want to go if you want to experience inflation in real time. They have a latte with cold brew and ghee. It's a slow release.
And I get the Khalil Bone Broth for breakfast, and whatever smoothie. Their smoothies are so expensive, and I can't tell the difference between any of them, but it's a cool place to go to. If you're a surfer and you're just leaving the beach, you got to go to SunLife on your way out.
You can get the billion-dollar shake, and you're like, 'Why is this $30?' You taste it, and you're like, 'This is actually crazy.' And you're still hungry after you eat it. You get it once, and never again, but you got to try it."
"I like the sea moss they have there. That's the most Erewhon thing you could buy. Because it's $80 for a little bottle of it. Then you're like, 'What does this do?' Then it doesn't really do anything, and you have it in your fridge. And people are like, 'Oh, wow. You're rich.'"
"I love Lucky's. That's where you do a date when you're trying to have a threesome. They have this chili there that's really good. Malibu really loves their chili—they have a Chili Cook Off here. It's full of celebrities, people there with security guards, and there's all the Malibu locals. There's rides. It's like a Euphoria episode."
"The Old Place is dope. It's kind of in Topanga, but people say it's Malibu. The service kind of sucks, and there's peacocks everywhere screaming while you're eating.
Peacocks are a real problem. I try to go in the neighborhood app and tell people, 'What can I do about this peacock? I don't like it.' People were like, 'Don't you fucking touch the peacock. We love peacocks here. We wish we had peacocks in our yard. You're the luckiest person in the world.'"
