Where Chrissy Teigen Goes When She’s Craving Sugar & Butter In LA

Her go-to spots for donuts, cakes, Taiwanese shaved ice, and more.

Welcome to Perfect For, an Infatuation series of ultra-specific restaurant recommendations from people around town you don't know personally, but might wish you did. Today, Chrissy Teigen shares the places in LA she loves for all kinds of sweets.

Here are three things you should know about Chrissy Teigen: she can “get down with beans in the morning,” she’s sick of people putting meat on donuts, and she definitely uses Salt & Straw’s waffle cone perfume.

Now that you know these facts, we should also tell you that she’s running an exclusive bakery pop-up in LA, where she’s selling boxed mixes and handing out samples of banana bread and waffles. It's in DTLA, and they'll be open from 11am-5pm this weekend and next. When she’s not selling and baking salted white chocolate macadamia cookies, though, she’s obviously…sampling more desserts around LA. Here are six of her favorite sweet shops in LA. They include a spot doing ube-flavored ice cream and where she orders french toast made by The Rock’s personal chef.

“Christina Tosi is the blueprint for baked goods. The ingredients she uses are so wonderful, and I always get excited when she has a new cake drop. I’m the first in line to get it. I really like her pancake cake—I think I’ve gotten it three or four times.”

“This is an ice cream place, and they have a traditional Korean fish-shaped waffle cone that comes in seasonal flavors like ube, and they’ll even fill the inside of the cone with Nutella. The ice cream is so smooth and delicious, and it’s just a really cool little spot in Ktown. Plus, it’s right by H Mart.”

Bob's Coffee & Doughnuts

“I’m very disheartened by donuts lately. They’re getting too heavy, they’re getting too cakey. But not at Bob’s. Any time my daughter has a dance class, we try to walk over to Bob’s. They’ve got some frills on some of their donuts, but their classic glaze is everything to me. In a city where they’re throwing, like, meat and cereal on them right now, I just want a nice doughnut.”

Joy On York

“Joy, in general, is so good. They have this layered pancake that’s amazing, but the real reason to go there is for the shaved ice. They do this incredible Taiwanese shaved ice that you can get topped with fruit or red bean or whatever you want. It’s so delicious and so smooth. I love tart flavors when it comes to dessert, and this is the perfect mix of sweet and tart depending on what flavors you’re getting.”

Brique French Toastery

$$$$

“I love Westfield Century City Mall so much. I’m usually there to go to Eataly, but one time I went to the bottom level and I came across this random giant french toast place where they serve, like, literal bricks of french toast. And I guess it’s The Rock’s chef that created this brick french toast. I saw him posting about it and I was like, I must have this. You walk in there and it smells incredible, but it’s actually delicious too. You can get peanut butter spread on it, or coconut flakes. There’s no real menu there—it's just bricks of french toast, and you gotta love that.”

“I love Salt & Straw so much. They did a rice crispy treat flavor that reminded me of rice crispy treats cereal. I honestly love their sea salt caramel ribbons—the caramel specifically. The ribbons of caramel and the sea salt caramel are just so good, because the sea salt isn’t in the caramel—it’s in the ice cream. They also do a Parker House rolls flavor at Thanksgiving that’s so good it needs to be year-round. I’ve even bought the waffle cone perfume, like that sh*t was meant for me."
