7 Exciting Things To Do & Eat Between February 16th-21st

It’s not often we find ourselves thanking US presidents, but this week is an exception due to the upcoming three-day weekend that hopefully most of us can enjoy. If you’re choosing to take the extra day to recharge, we applaud you. If you’re looking to get out and take advantage of the warmer weather and lower case counts, you’re in the right place. Here are all the events we’re excited about this week.

CELEBRATE LUNAR NEW YEAR

If you missed out on most of the big Lunar New Years celebrations this year, you’re in luck: the city of Alhambra is throwing a big festival this Sunday, February 20th at the Alhambra farmers market. The party runs from 8:30am-1:30pm and will include a variety of food, entertainment, and other family activities. Admission to the event is free. 

HIT UP A BOOZY BRUNCH

LA’s only winery within city limits is throwing a big Soulful Sunday Brunch hosted by Taste Is Grace on February 20th. Tickets are $85 per person, but include three drink tickets, plus access to the full menu which includes everything from fried chicken and cheesy grits to fresh waffles made on-site with a toppings bar. The seating for the event is at 10am and you must be 21 to enter.  

CHECK OUT A QUEER MERCADO

We’re approaching the third Saturday of February, which means it’s time for another edition of the Queer Mercado in East LA. Running February 19th from 10am-4pm, the event will include a variety of queer-owned vendors and stalls, plus local art, DJs, live music, drag shows, food trucks, and much more. 

SNAG A TABLE AT ANAJAK

After a few months of being takeout-only, the tremendous Sherman Oaks Thai spot has reopened for dine-in and reservations are now available. The dinner-only menu is a la carte-only (Taco Tuesday and the omakase have not yet returned), but if you’ve been missing the alleyway and all the incredible food as much as we have, snag a table. 

SWING BY A POP-UP

One of our favorite burgers spots in LA, Goldburger, is heading west this Saturday, February 19th and Sunday, February 20th for a special pop-up at Brain Dead Studios on Fairfax. Running each day from 12-4pm, the menu will feature Goldburger’s special chili cheeseburger topped with a new yellow mustard BBQ sauce, plus favorites from their regular menu as well. 

FOUR DAYS OF FRIEZE LA

This weekend marks the return of Frieze LA, one of the biggest contemporary art events of the year. Tickets are going fast for the four-day event, which runs from February 17th-20th, and if you're attending, you’ll no doubt be hungry after all of those gallery visits. If you’re looking for a fun dinner spot nearby, check out Mirame in Beverly Hills for excellent Mexican food or Honor Bar for a delicious burger and quick cocktail. 

MEET SOME NEW PEOPLE

This Thursday, February 17th, the queer/woman safe space Cherry Bomb Weho is taking over Stache Weho for Taste Of V-Day. The one-night event runs from 8pm-2am and will feature live performances, a lively dance floor, and more. Colored wristbands will be given out at the door (green if you want to get flirty, pink if you’re just there to hang) to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
