Our picks for soaking up summer this week.
And just like that…summer is in full swing. Between ongoing Pride celebrations, neighborhood festivals in every corner of the city, and the season’s first heat wave, the time is now to get outside and say “hello” to summer 2022. Here are this week’s most exciting events.
Still recovering from last weekend’s Weho Pride? It’s time to rally, because Pride in LA is just getting started. Aside from the main parade and festival on Hollywood Blvd., there are countless events going down throughout the city. Check out the Banjee Ball Downtown, Judy Garland’s birthday bash at the cemetery, family day at the Natural History Museum, and a queer Bollywood disco in Los Feliz.
Right on cue, the summer’s first heat wave is upon us. Instead of putting your trust in your AC window unit, round up some friends and head to the beach. While you’re there, grab some food in Malibu or the South Bay, or pack a light lunch and hit a great spot after the beach. No one wants to be driving home hungry.
Watermelon really is the ultimate summer snack, which is why you’ll catch us this weekend at the California Watermelon Festival. Running from Saturday, June 11th through Sunday, June 12th, the two-day festival in Sylmar will include a kids zone, carnival rides, a beer garden, live music, and plenty of specialty dishes, including watermelon salsa tacos, smoked watermelon, and watermelon BBQ chicken. Tickets range from $10-15.
This Saturday, June 11th, Spicy Green Book is hosting a massive food market in Manhattan Beach. Running from 12-7pm, the market will include over 50 Black-owned vendors including food and beverage, artisans, DJs, and more. This event is free and children of all ages are welcome.
Glendale’s Brewyard Beer Co. is hosting their 4th annual Brewyard Art Festival this Saturday, June 12th from 12-8pm. The event itself is free and will feature various artists, painters, live music, outside food vendors, and of course, no shortage of beer.
The 818 Night Market is back this Saturday, June 11th from 4-10pm. It’s all happening at the Mission Hills Christian Church and will feature countless local vendors selling food, art, and fashion—plus live music and games as well. This event is free.
