Apologies to all the autumn-philes out there, this week has just been brutal. Triple digit temperatures have left us all huddled inside, reaching for ice packs, and Googling which movie theaters have the best AC. Or maybe this last gasp of summer (fingers crossed) has you itching to get out there and have some fun. These are the events we’re most excited about.
THE EVENTS
CELEBRATE THE START OF FALL
It might not exactly feel like fall right now in Southern California, but the Hi Autumn Festival is going down regardless. The two-day event is happening this Saturday and Sunday, September 10th and 11th, in Temple City in celebration of the traditional Chinese autumn holiday. There will be carnival games, live entertainment, and dozens of vendors featuring Japanese, Korean, and Latin food. The event is free to the public
DANCE ALL NIGHT
We’re all sweating anyway, so you might as well do it on a dance floor, right? This Saturday, September 10th, Echoplex in Echo Park is hosting a 2000’s-era hip hop dance party running from 9pm-2am. RSVP to get free entry before 10pm. If hip hop isn’t your scene, here are plenty of other great bars where you can dance this weekend.

COOL OFF WITH SOME WATER ICE
Massively popular water ice shop Happy Ice is popping up all over the Southland this week, so if you don’t live close to its original Melrose Ave. location, be sure to check out their schedule. Pit stops include Long Beach, West Covina, Torrance, Compton, and more. If you want more ways to stay cool, check out LA’s other great frozen treats.
DRINK SOME WINE
Tabula Rasa, one of our favorite wine bars in LA, is hosting a slate of different events at their East Hollywood location this week. First, they’re doing a month-long toy drive all September for the Children’s Hospital of LA (make sure the toy you’re donating is in its original packaging). Wednesday is all about smashburgers and $15 wine flights, Thursdays will have a live DJ, and Sunday will be a day-drinking party followed by a jazz trio performance.
ENJOY THE OUTDOORS
We don’t want to jinx it, but the remnants of a hurricane (??) might break the heatwave this weekend, meaning you might not have to hide under your AC unit all weekend. Instead, go enjoy a great new patio or an impressive view, and mentally unwind until our next heatwave.
