5 Exciting Things To Do & Eat In LA This Week

Tamales, noodle soups, and more.

It’s a tough week for anyone still trying to stave off the arrival of the holiday season—it’s here and it’s not going anywhere. So just cut your losses and hang some lights, throw on Mariah Carey, and embrace it. These are the festive events that caught our eye this week.

THE EVENTS

SWING BY A HOLIDAY MARKET

There are tons of holiday markets happening, but only one is on a downtown rooftop. Broken Shaker’s market is going down this Sunday, December 4th from 12-4pm and will feature a variety of different local vendors(time to start gift shopping), plus drinks specials, and DJs. This event is free and open to the public.

BOOK A SNEAK PEEK POP-UP

In the meantime, they’re hosting pop-up dinners this weekend in a private club space with open reservations. Happening Friday, December 2nd and Saturday, December 3rd, the nights will feature an 8-course tasting menu that costs $120-180 per person. Vegan menus are also available.

EMBRACE TAMALE SEASON

The arrival of the holidays means it’s also peak tamale season. Get in on the fun at The Tamale Competition & Festival this weekend in Alhambra. The second annual event takes place this Saturday, December 3rd from 12-6pm and will feature hundreds of amateur chefs cooking up their best tamales. Anyone can enter the competition, or like us you can just show up to eat.

STOP BEING A GRINCH

We get the holidays can be annoying and tiresome at times, but they also can be pretty wonderful, too. Lean into the latter part of that sentence and check out all the restaurants around town that’ll help you find your holiday spirit. Or maybe you just need to warm up your cold heart with some warm noodle soup instead.
