Feature
If you’re hoping a break from the heat is just around the corner, we recommend not looking at any 10-day forecasts. Instead, keep busy this week and embrace the relentless sun to the best of your ability. Looking for some help? Here are the local events, parties, and pop-ups we’re most excited about.
THE EVENTS
CHECK OUT A BLOCK PARTY
The tiny enclave of Melrose Hill is hosting its first annual block party this Saturday, August 20th—and it promises to be quite the event. Running from 4pm to midnight, the party will feature more than 14 food vendors including Ggiata, Bridgetown Roti, Heavy Handed, and Kuya Lord, plus DJs, and a beer garden. General admission is free (though you should RSVP here) or if you want to get in on the open bar, tickets are $50.
PERUSE A YARD SALE
In the market for some restaurant-grade kitchen equipment or home decor? This Sunday, August 21st, Guerrilla Tacos is hosting a one-off yard sale from 10am-2pm. The popular Arts District taqueria will be selling cooking gear as well as furnishings like pendant lights, glassware, and more. There will also be $3 tacos and snacks, $10 mimosas, and $12 margaritas.

COOL DOWN WITH A DRINK
Grabbing a cocktail or two is a smart way to pass the time during a heat wave. That’s why you’ll find us at this Studio City dive with excellent food and an aperitivo bar in Eagle Rock where the crowd literally spills onto the street. All our favorite new bars in town can be found here.
EMBRACE THE SUMMER NIGHTS
One great thing about the heat is that nights are pretty comfortable right now. Take advantage of it and head over to Summertime Nights in Chinatown. The outdoor event is going down this Saturday, August 20th from 5pm-midnight and will feature neighborhood food and beverage vendors, art installations, cooking demos, and two stages with live performances throughout the night. This event is free and open to all ages.
HIT UP AN ITALIAN DISCO
This Sunday, August 21st, Everson Royce Bar in the Arts District is throwing a big outdoor Italian disco from 2-8pm to celebrate the release of their Orange Guilio, an alcoholic slushie made with orange wine from LA-based natural winery, Wonder Werk. The event will also feature Triple Beam Pizza, summery cocktails courtesy of Ventura Spirits, and DJs spinning Italian disco all night.
