If you’re looking for an excellent gastropub, there are plenty of options in London. But if you’re looking for an excellent gastropub in Stoke Newington, with a garden and the kind of menu that guarantees a pop of the button and an enormous contented sigh, then head straight to The Clarence Tavern. It’s a sibling of the Anchor & Hope and the Canton Arms, both brilliant gastropubs in their own right, and the Clarence - with it’s enormous, melt-in-your-mouth slow cooked lamb and oozing portions of gratin dauphinois - is no different.
