Passo is a huge new Italian restaurant next to the Old Street roundabout and you’ll instantly like the space when you step in - it’s spacious and beautifully designed. It’s a place we can see ourselves having a really lovely casual dinner with mates or a low key birthday meal. The food, however, is less impressive - stick to the burrata and a simple pizza and you won’t be disappointed, but don’t expect to be overly impressed.

If you’re looking for serious meats, Smokestak in Shoreditch is your answer. The Southern barbecue, especially the brisket, is the best in London.
Rochelle Canteen is a sort of secret restaurant in Shoreditch. The space is nice and relaxing, and the rotating British menu is always excellent.
Beigel Bake on Brick Lane is a classic East London establishment with excellent bagels to take away, and a great salt beef bagel.

Sager + Wilde’s Bethnal Green outpost brings good wine and Italian eats, and mixes it with railway arch vibes and plenty of outdoor seats for summer.
Saporitalia is a neighbourhood Italian spot that doesn’t look like much, but is actually excellent. Go for the pizza and veal chop.
