Naan Staap
Naan Staap is a pretty accurate way to describe our ordering style at this Pakistani cafe in Walthamstow. The menu ranges from pizza naans to carrot cake options for dessert, all with soft centres and crispy, baked-against-the-tandoor crusts. If Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory was a stuffed naan factory, it’d be this. It’s predominantly a takeaway, but it’s still comfortable if you sit in one of the lime green booths which feel very “I guess I’ll stay for the carrot and butter-glazed number”. The food can be a bit hit and miss but a few hits—the dam qeema naan with spicy, juicy lamb mince, and the Ferrero Rocher naan, generously drizzled in chocolate sauce and flecked with hazelnuts—had us coming back for lunch and ordering in after a night out. That’s when Naan Staap works best—as a chilled, good-value cafe for a bready, snacky meal at the end of a long day or night.
