The pandemic has affected the lives of everyone. And through it all, NHS staff and front-line workers have been risking their own lives and working tirelessly to save others. And for that we want to say thank you.
We also want to highlight the community-led initiatives and all the amazing ways restaurants have been supporting hospitals during their busiest periods. We’ll be using this guide to list the restaurant initiatives around the city that are giving back to the NHS this winter. From delivering hundreds of pizzas to ICU units, to offering free coffee and discounts to emergency workers - here are all the ways restaurants are showing their support.
RESTAURANTS FEEDING THE NHS
Since the beginning of the pandemic last March, Pizza Pappagone have been making pizzas and relying on volunteers to deliver them to the Whittington Hospital. Keep an eye on their Instagram if you’re local and have a vehicle.
Ham have been delivering hot meals to the Royal Free, University College Hospital, and St. Mary’s twice a week throughout January, and are looking for volunteers to help them continue feeding frontline workers.
Lucky & Joy
Murger Han is offering complimentary meals to all NHS workers. Frontline staff can show their ID at their Mayfair, Euston, or Bank branch for a free meal of their choice.
Benares are offering free meals to anyone working for the NHS, just pop in Monday to Fridays between 12pm and 2pm for a complimentary biryani to go.
All throughout January, Juici Jerk is working with Critical NHS to make and deliver hot meals to the frontline workers at St George’s hospital in Wandsworth.
Theo’s are asking for donations to help fund their continued efforts to deliver batches of pizza to King’s College Hospital. Donations can start as low as £1, check out their website for more information.
The Watermill Restaurant
Partnering with, and funded by, Critical NHS, The Watermill Restaurant is delivering hot meals to St. George’s Hospital.
As well as running a soup kitchen every Tuesday, The Duke of Richmond is delivering burgers to staff at Homerton Hospital.
Otto's French Restaurant
Otto’s French Restaurant has been supporting the ICU at St. Thomas’s Hospital since lockdown 1.0. They’re currently asking for donations to help them continue delivering meals to frontline workers. Donate here.
As well as donating hundreds of loaves of sourdough to Fareshare, a charity working to relive food poverty, Pullins Bakery has been donating fresh loaves to St. George’s Hospital to feed NHS staff.
Cassio Ristorante & Pizzeria
Cassio Ristorante & Pizzeria have been working alongside Critical NHS to donate pizzas, pasta, and more hot meals to frontline workers at St. George’s Hospital on a regular basis.
Four Seasons is delivering hot meals to the ICU at King’s College Hospital. Each meal also comes with a 10% off voucher for NHS workers.
This Balham spot is also working alongside Critical NHS, delivering meals to local hospitals.
Together with some friends, Chef Sam Clark, of Moro has set up an East London initiative where Morito, Moro, and Lucky & Joy have teamed together to deliver home-cooked meals to the staff at Homerton Hospital.
The London-wide bakery chain, Gail’s, is ‘Baking for our NHS’. The drive began last year, and they’re now donating baked goods to local hospitals and delivering across London and Surrey with the help of local charities.
Lahore Spices is delivering hot meals funded by Critical NHS to local hospitals.
Pop Up Greek
Working with Critical NHS, this Greek pop-up is delivering souvlaki wraps to local London hospitals.
Fireaway Pizza in Sutton have teamed up with Critical NHS to deliver pizzas to local hospitals.
Rosa’s Thai Cafe has donated over 13,000 meals to the NHS since the start of the pandemic, and are planning to donate at least 600 meals a week across their UK restaurants. You can pay it forward and donate for meals to feed the NHS here.
Green Floor have teamed up with Critical NHS to deliver pizzas to local hospitals.
Camile Thai has partnered with Critical NHS to donate and deliver hot meals to St. George’s Hospital.
Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park
The Mandarin Oriental continues to donate meals to frontline workers, which are delivered to hospitals by Critical NHS volunteers.
This online shop that focuses on meal kits, has partnered with Critical NHS to deliver hot meals to local hospitals.
JUS Fine Food
Funded by Critical NHS, catering company JUS Fine Food is preparing meals for frontline workers at St.George’s Hospital.
You Bao Mi has partnered with Critical NHS to provide meals for frontline workers at local hospitals.
Crosstown Doughnuts & Coffee
Crosstown has made it possible to donate doughnuts to NHS workers at a hospital of your choice. Their ‘Operation Doughnation’ lets you pick a quantity of doughnuts to donate - from 12 to 120 - for a reduced price. There’s more information on their website.
RESTAURANTS PROVIDING DISCOUNTS FOR NHS STAFF
Paul is offering free hot drinks for NHS staff, as well as 10% off food across all their stores.
NHS workers can get 15% off food at The Athenian.
As well as donating meals to hospitals, Rosa’s Thai Cafe is offering 25% off to NHS workers when ordering food.
This British burger spot in Fulham is offering a 20% discount off its whole menu for NHS workers.
Casa do Frango
Piri piri chicken spot Casa Do Frango is offering a 20% discount for all NHS workers.
NHS workers can get 25% off when collecting food from Chakra.
Upping their usual offering of a 15% discount, Leon are now giving NHS staff 30% off food.
Nando’s are continuing to offer a 20% discount to NHS workers.
Pizza Hut offers NHS workers who own a Blue Light Card 25% off food when ordering after 3pm Sundays to Thursdays.
Domino’s are continuing to offer a 30% discount to NHS workers.
