If you’re still kicking yourself for missing the chance to cycle around London nude last weekend, don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to enjoy your weekend that don’t involve saddle sores. From a festival celebrating Black-owned businesses, to a borek-toastie collab that’s worth travelling across London for, here are 5 exciting things you should add to your weekend schedule.

Go to a Disco in a Basement Bar

Life hack: pretend Thursday night is Friday night and you will eventually convince your brain that the weekend has come. Of course that is until you go back to work on Friday with a pounding headache, but c’est la vie. The point is, going to a funk and soul themed night at a Spitalfields basement bar sounds a lot more fun than staying at home on a Thursday, so head to Umbrella Radio’s takeover at the Discount Suit Company for drinks, dancing, and an early start to your weekend.

Eat a Jollof Burrito in Hackney

Black Owned Hackney Market

$$$$

How does a jollof burrito sound? What about a cinnamon sugar puff puff? Or a Caribbean cookout platter? You can find all of those, plus hard slushies, clothes, and stalls selling products from Black-owned businesses in Hackney’s Bohemia Place market. Head here on Saturday or Sunday from 11am to 6pm for a day of food, drinks, and music.

Stuff Your Face With a Limited Edition Börek Bap

Sandwiches

Tottenham

Things that got us through this past year: Netflix, tracksuit bottoms, and Mystic Börek’s whole böreks (devoured in said tracksuit bottoms, while watching Netflix). And while what started as a DM-to-order situation has grown to a full-blown website delivery service across London, you can get what’s essentially a börek bap for one day only in Tottenham. Think layers of filo pastry with nduja sausage and hot ajvar oil stuffed in a bread roll which you can get from 1pm at Holcombe Market’s permanent fixture and cacio e pepe toastie legends, Wine N’ Rind.

Go to a Festival... That's All About Hot Sauce

If you tell us you’ve already got something more exciting than a hot sauce festival planned for your weekend, we won’t believe you. In what they describe as a ‘Hot Sauce Bash’, the Hot Sauce Society is hosting a festival featuring over 40 craft hot sauce makers, DJs, cocktails, and vendors like Dishoom and Only Jerkin’. Check out their website to book tickets.

Eat Some Doughnuts and Play Some Games

If you’re sick of heading to Westfield for some shelter every time the rain is scheduled to make an appearance, how about you head to another shopping centre, where shopping is the last thing you’re likely to be doing. A new 80,000 square foot venue in Wandsworth’s Southside shopping centre has everything from electric go karting, and AR bowling, to digital darts, and an arcade. And what’s more, it’s less than a-10 minute walk from one of our favourite new bakeries, Lockdown Bakehouse. We’d head to the bakery first and stock up on doughnuts, then spend a couple of hours pretending we’re 12 years old in the arcade. Book tickets here.
