5 Exciting Things To Eat & Do In December

It’s the most wonderful time of the year—sequin sightings are up by roughly 40%, the heating has finally been turned on, and everyone is pretending that mince pies aren’t weird.

December has finally rolled around and with it comes festive markets, Christmas sandwiches, and New Year’s Eve parties. The whole thing can be a little overwhelming so we’ve found five fun things to do, no stress involved.

Yokimono Japanese Christmas Market is where we plan on doing all of our gift shopping this year. There’ll be ceramics, jewellery, illustrations, and vintage kimonos on sale. Plus, eco wrapping demonstrations, a tea ceremony, and live music performances. What’s in it for you? You can refuel between selflessly shopping for distant relations with some okonomiyaki from OkonomiHeads and katsu-stuffed croissants from Hiden. If you need more convincing, this Dalston event is completely free. Find it in The Factory on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd December.

If you’re looking for the true meaning of the festive season, you don’t go to Winter Wonderland. In fact, if you’re looking for good food, you usually don’t go to Winter Wonderland. But this year we braved the £15 rides and some practically inedible steak in Hyde Park to bring you the good stuff and save you from wasting your money. For the full list, watch our TikTok video. But if you really want to avoid Winter Wonderland at all costs, we’ve got a guide for that too.

Most of our favourite meals could be sandwiched between two slices of bread and instantly be improved, and Christmas dinner is no exception. December should be a time to work your way through as many of these bready delights as possible. And it’s not difficult when places like the Secret Sandwich Shop have previously done specials filled with layers of sage and onion stuffing, crunchy bacon crumb, plus turkey, red cabbage, cranberry sauce, crispy shallots, and kewpie mayo.

Losing a phone, losing a friend, paying £70 to get into an overcrowded club, and sharing a sambuca-sponsored kiss at midnight—New Year’s Eve is where good nights go to die. So we’ve put together a list of restaurants where you’ll be guaranteed to eat good food and have a fun time. There’s caviar pizza at our favourite Big Mamma spot, intimate dinner party vibes at Levan, and all-out karaoke fun at Sporting Clube De Londres.

What better way to celebrate making it to the end of another year than by indulging in some heavy-duty retail therapy. Pick a lane: you could go classic and brave the streets of W1 or choose the shiny, new-ish Battersea Power Station. If you’re going for Battersea, follow your Uniqlo splurge with a juicy, flat-iron steak and a jug of white sangria at Solis in Battersea’s Arcade Food Hall.
