Talib Kweli

Back in 2010, we had an all time Infatuation favorite, Talib Kweli, drop his debut Friday Fives. Back then, the intro talked about how "Get By" was on every "iPod" playlist we've ever made. Cool story, bro.

Now in 2015, Talib makes his triumphant Infatuation return with his follow-up effort, round two of his favorite restaurants. We've loved Kweli ever since the Mos Def/Blackstar days, so needless to say it's an honor to have a legend of this level contribute to the site not once, but twice.

Right now you can catch Talib on The People's Champions Tour with Immortal Technique and fellow food adverturist NIKO IS. They’ll be NYC at Highline Ballroom on April 14th. You know Kweli will be hitting Blue Ribbon Brasserie for some post-show Late Night EEEEEEATS.

Talib's "Perfect For" Picks

Joloff Restaurant Perfect For: Authentic Ethnic Eats 1168 Bedford Ave.

“My homie NIKO IS says the worse the attitude of the server is, the better the food is. That can be true, but not here, where you are always warmly welcomed and the food is great. Joloff is Senegalese and I lived on the Joloff fish and rice when I worked at Nkiru Books and it used to be on Fulton St. The Fulton St location is seen in the last shot of my first official music video, Definition by Black Star, because Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) and I spent hours there.”

Amy Ruth's Perfect For: Brunch 113 W 116th St

“It’s old school soul food, and people watching Harlem church folks on a Sunday afternoon is super fun.”

Coffee Shop Perfect For: Action At The Bar 29 Union Sq W

“Centrally located, waitresses are fly, coconut shrimp was a constant for me as a teenager. But I had to sneak in or know somebody back then because they card at the door. I used to hang out there with my homie John Forte, trying to pick up girls.”

La Esquina Brasserie Perfect For: Date Night 114 Kenmare St.

“Its set up like a speak easy, so if you don’t know where it is you need someone to take you. It gets busy as well, so you have to know someone there to get a seat. You walk into a non descriptor diner, head down a staircase to a cellar that is part tapas restaurant part tequila bar. Do the tequila fights, order the crab tostadas and tortilla soup, listen to the great selection by the dj, and you will have a great night.”

Blue Ribbon Brasserie Perfect For: Late Night Eats 97 Sullivan St.

“Not only some of the best fried chicken on the planet, but the one on Sullivan is open until 4am. Or later. I once went with Dave Chappelle at 4:30 who asked them to let us in for celebrity snack time. Their Hennessy side car is perfect.”
