Today's Friday Fives will make you want to dance. Or, at the very least, his music will make you want to dance. That's because we have favorite restaurant picks from St. Lucia, real name Jean-Philip Grobler. The South African born artist spends a lot of time in Chicago and definitely knows his way around the city.
Not only did St. Lucia put on an awesome performance at Lollapalooza this year, but Jean and his band are on their own tour for the rest of the month, including an upcoming stop in Chicago. Want free tickets to the Chicago show at Concord Music Hall on Saturday, October 22? Enter here for a chance to win, and check out St. Lucia's Friday Fives.
"I’m what I like to call a picky-adventurous-eater, I know that’s an oxymoron but it perfectly describes my taste in food. I’m down for a lot of weird flavour combinations, but there are certain flavours and textures I can’t stand. Patti, my wife and keys player in the band, is a SUPER adventurous eater, and this spot satisfies both of our palates perfectly. I really enjoyed watching Patti eat pig’s ear."
"Chef Matt serves the best burger, by far, that I’ve had in Chicago. Everything else on the menu is also really great. I once made the fatal mistake of eating a burger and a half (Patti’s half that she couldn’t finish) on a show day and could barely move and kept throwing up in my mouth when it came to the show. It was all worth it though."
"Believe it or not, despite our on-the-sleeve Yacht-Rock influences a Yacht club is not somewhere that I often choose to frequent. Some very good friends of ours who live in Chicago took us to this spot and it has one of the best views I’ve experienced in Chicago and it’s so nice to be out on the water on a really old boat. "
"I cannot count how many times I’ve been lush/day-drunk at The Kitchen. A friend of ours knows the owners of this spot, and so every time we go they basically force us to drink champagne. Luckily the food and the space is amazing too. That’s one of the hard parts of our job, being forced to drink?"
"We once stayed at a hotel right next to this spot, and I remember being intruiged and popping in one morning. Little did I know I was about to be treated to one of the best breakfast experiences I’d ever had. The cherry on top is that every meal comes with a free cinnabun. And not just any cinnabun, without a doubt the best cinnabun I’ve ever had. And that’s even beating my memories of cinnabuns from when I was a kid. But then again maybe the food in South Africa just wasn’t that good when I was growing up. I’ll never know."
