In high school, I was the kid ripping out photos from Rolling Stone and taping them to the back of my bedroom door. That door was covered with all the 90's bands you'd expect, flyers from wannabe punk rock shows, Goldfinger stickers, Rancid lyrics, and Shirley Manson photos. I f*cking loved Shirley Manson, the lead singer of Garbage, and today, she's picking restaurants for The Infatuation. This is pretty damn cool.
Garbage are one of those bands that, even though you've heard their songs gazillions of times, never seem to get old. That song off the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack, come on? So good. STILL. Their longevity has been impressive, and they've always seemed to find a way to reinvent themselves and stay relevant. Their debut album is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year (damn, we're old), and to celebrate, the band is releasing a remastered version of the album with remixes and b-sides. But more importantly, they're embarking on their 20 Years Of Queer tour this fall, and playing the entire record front to back.
Shirley has always been one of the coolest, most confident women in rock, and we're glad to see that reflected in her LA Friday Fives picks. Bar Ama? We're on the same wavelength here.
She's only happy when she EEEEEATS.
Shirley's "perfect for" picks
"If it is a good steak you are looking for, you need look no further than Hollywood’s oldest restaurant. Served up in a gorgeous old dining room by somewhat grumpy waiters and chased down with a outstandingly dirty martini, you will be feeling no pain by the time you leave."
"I love Mexican food and this is a favorite spot of mine. I love the bustling ambience and the potent cocktails but the food sends me somewhere sublime and romantic. And don’t get me started on the homemade tacos. Men have fought wars over less."
"This tiny little hole in the wall is easy to miss but it is a newly discovered neighborhood gem for me. I take all my favorite people here to eat and drink good wine. The menu is small and selective but everything tastes so bloody good. If you close you eyes whilst munching on the irresistible bread and salty butter they bring to the table, I swear you might actually believe you are in Paris."
"My go to sushi spot. The fish is outrageous. And the celebrity quotient is off the scale so I’m not the only one to enjoy the outstanding quality here in this perfectly unassuming little strip mall joint."
"Bouchon is, in my opinion, the most beautiful restaurant in all of Los Angeles. It is run with extreme finesse and an attention to detail which pleases me to no end. Every time I eat here, I am transported somewhere deeply joyous and divine."
