Here's a Friday Fives for the books - restaurant picks from one of the greatest rappers/lyricists/street poets to ever walk the earth, Mr. Nasir Jones. We've been fans of Nas since high school, back when we used to bump "Street Dreams" from our friend's turquoise Mercury Sable, and we're betting you probably have been too. One of the things we've always loved about Nas' music is that regardless of where you come from and what your background is, his lyrics and stories have a special way of connecting. Two decades later, it's time to reflect on the career of a legend, and also find out where the man likes to eat.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of his seminal debut album, Illmatic, not only did Nas release a remastered edition with a full disc of remixes and bonus cuts, but there's also a feature film, Time Is Illmatic. The movie is a retrospective documentary of Mr. Jones’ life, telling the story of how a kid from Queensbridge became one of the most important hip hop artists in the history of the genre. Time Is Illmatic comes out next week, and we're giving away tickets to the NYC premiere AND the San Francisco "One Night Only" screening. And if you don't win your way into one of those, the film will be available on iTunes and On Demand on October 2nd.
In the meantime, eat like Nas. His NYC restaurant picks are below, and follow Nas on Twitter to keep up with all of his activities and goings on. #TimeIsIllmatic #FoodisEEEEEATSmatic
