Even if you’ve never heard of MS MR, you’ve definitely heard MS MR before. The unlikely rock stars had one of those songs you hear everywhere, without even realizing it. “Hurricane” was huge, and vaulted them from the cozy confines of the music blogosphere to the national spotlight. Lizzy Plapinger (vocals) and Max Hershenow (producer), NYC locals, and Vassar alumni, are MS MR, and they have a new album with an excellent new tune called “Painted” which Infatuation playlist subscribers will surely recognize.
Technically, this is Lizzy Plapinger’s second Friday Fives. You see, the fiery lead singer of MS MR is also one half of another dynamic music duo: trailblazing indie record label Neon Gold. Lizzy and her Neon Gold partner Derek Davies remain the “it” label for pop-leaning indie bands. They introduced artists like Passion Pit, Marina And The Diamonds, Ellie Goulding, Tove Lo, and Haim to the United States. Not only does Lizzy write great songs, but she has a great ear, AND excellent taste in restaurants. She’s a triple threat.
