This week's Friday Fives comes to us from Misterwives, one of the best new bands around right now. Etienne Bowler, William Hehir, Marc Campbell, Jesse Blum, and their lead vocalist/songwriter Mandy Lee are quickly taking over the airwaves. The soul/pop/folk band of five got signed by a record label after performing their first show ever in 2013. Talk about a success story. Their album, Our Own House, is inspired by many different genres of music including reggae and rock. They have great style and taste, so their restaurant/bar picks are ones we trust.
Misterwives' hit sit single, "Reflections," is so good it should be added to your playlist immediately. Misterwives will be performing on March 31st at the Bowery Ballroom, and at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 7th. Get your tickets HERE.
These guys (and girl) also kill it on social media. Like their page on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter and Instagram for exclusive info and updates. As if that isn't enough, see their favorite NYC restaurant/bar picks below.
Mister Wives' "perfect for" picks
"Most of us live in the Bronx so whenever we have a free night and want to stay local we always hit up the Bacht. It's always listed as one of the best Irish bars in NY and they have live music there almost every night of the week. The food there is delicious - the veggie burger with fries is our go to whenever we're there. It's a great place to see some of the Bronx's best musicians - it's also where we found our guitar player, Marc!!"
"Sweet Afton's a great place if your looking to grab some delicious food and a few pints. The place has no televisions so it's an awesome spot to go and actually have conversations with your friends! They have a Mac and cheese that is phenomenal and their fried pickles are insanely delicious. It's a great spot for a meal or a quick bite!"
"There are a plethora of absolutely amazing vegan restaurants in New York that vary in every type of cuisine imaginable. But recently NY's all-vegan creperie cherry has been popped and if you venture out to Brooklyn your wildest sweet and savory dreams shall come true! We recommend their homemade Nutella crepe with fresh strawberries and bananas with their coconut based whipped cream."
"Whenever we're home we always make a stop at McSwiggans. Drinks are cheap, the bartenders are some of our best friends (we spend a lot of time there) and they even let us close the place down one night so that we could celebrate Will's birthday there. It's hard to leave the place without making a few new friends. Definitely a great place to start or end the night in NYC."
"No list of NYC bars is complete without McSorley's. It's the oldest bar in New York, they only serve 2 types of beer (dark/light) and the atmosphere there is great. It's an awesome place to hit up during the week if you want a low key night but definitely gets rowdy on the weekend."
