Koel Thomae, Cofounder of Noosa

If you eat yogurt (or is it yoghurt?), chances are you know about Noosa. A Boulder-born brand that's been leading a “yogurt/yoghurt should actually taste good" crusade since starting up a few years ago. We're suckers for hometown stories, but we're also suckers for anything that gives us the chance to eat delicious sweet things - especially if the sweet things turn out to be kind of good for you. Thanks to Koel Thomae and the folks at Noosa, this thing does actually exist. And regardless of how you spell it, stuff is delicious.

It's obvious Koel understands good food, so of course we're excited to hear all about where she likes to eat. Check our her Friday Five picks for Boulder and Denver below.

koel's "perfect for" picks

Boxcar Coffee Roasters Perfect For: Coffee & A Light Bite 1825 Pearl St

"I’m a tea drinker at heart but if I’m going to stray to the dark ‘caffeinated’ side then Boxcar makes the smoothest cappuccino in town, with just the right amount of coffee hipster - think baristas in vest and bowtie. Grab one of their in-house baked treats too. Go for the donut hole with Earl Grey glaze, you know you want to! Boxcar is in a shared space with Cured, a gourmet grocery with the best cheese and charcuterie. If you happen to be there during lunch you can mix the two worlds and sip your cuppa with a small charcuterie plate or one of their delicious sandwiches."

Acorn Perfect For: People Watching 3350 Brighton Blvd.

"As a busy mum I sometimes have a tendency to default to my local faves, but when I do venture out of Boulder, dinner in Denver at Acorn is a really fun choice. Located at the entrance of The Source building in Denver’s up and coming River North District, you get a glimpse of the revolution that is happening in Denver as one of the fastest growing cities in the country. It’s loud, dynamic and diverse! Oh, and the food and cocktails served up at Acorn are some of the best in the city."

The Kitchen Boulder Perfect For: Brunch 1039 Pearl St

"When I think farm-to-table, The Kitchen is always top of my list! I love the urban/rustic ambience for a later morning brunch. My biggest challenge is deciding between a sweet or savory dish. Their menu offers the best of both so I’m always wrangling with whomever I dine with to consider doing a family-style brunch so I can enjoy both. While not available at brunch, the garlic fries at The Kitchen are ridiculous and worth a stop just for a bowl of these!

Pizzeria Locale Perfect For: Strollers 1730 Pearl St

"One of our fave spots to dine with our daughter Matilda. We go early to secure a spot at the pizza bar to watch the action of the wood-fired pies being made from start to finish. Don’t forget to ask for some dough for the kids to play with too! The aperitivo menu has great options for the whole family, from the frittatine (think macaroni cheese and bacon cubes of deliciousness) to an $8 margarita pizza. And the mini budinos are one of the best desserts in Boulder. Order your own and maybe an extra!"

Note: Many of my Boulder faves started in my backyard but have now expanded with second locations in Denver (including The Kitchen and Pizzeria Locale). Acorn’s (older) sister restaurant Oak is located in Boulder too.
