Jack Antonoff

Jack Antonoff

Today's Friday Fives guest is a wearer of many hats. Most know Jack Antonoff from his time as one third of the band FUN. Some remember Jack from his days as the lead singer of the indie band Steel Train. Others recognize him because he wears awesomely ridiculous outfits and dates a reasonably successful actress. And then of course, it's entirely possible that some of you local kids went to Solomon Schecter with Jack, or at knew him from your younger days in Jersey. Maybe you even went to sleep away camp together.

That's all well and good, but here's what you need to know about Jack right now. He just launched his own solo project, Bleachers, and he will soon own one of the biggest songs of summer 2014. If "I Wanna Get Better" isn't in your heavy rotation yet, it will be after today. We're obsessed.

Growing up in and around NYC, Jack's been running around this city and also eating food for a long time. And judging by his restaurant picks today, he seems to have pretty excellent taste. We will certainly be taking some of these recommendations, as we have yet to review any of them. You should too.

Keep up with Jack on Twitter and Instagram, and make sure to like Bleachers on Facebook for updates on the upcoming album, which is slated to be released later this spring.

Jack's "perfect for" picks

Perfect For: Neighborhood Hang

"Best semi Mexican food in New York City in my opinion. Special Mexican-ish kale salad there with pomegranate seeds."

The Mermaid Inn Perfect For: Oysters 96 Second Ave.

"I love the Upper West Side, but when I'm there I never want to eat in places that feel like the Upper West Side. Mermaid Inn is perfect and the oysters are never too big and grotesque looking."

Perfect For: Pre-Theater Eats

"No shit. Best place in that area. It’s just shy of really good and that’s what feels fun about it. I went there tonight for my birthday. No joke."

Knickerbocker Bar & Grill Perfect For: Classic NYC Experience 33 University Pl

"Still feels like a secret. It’s perfect. Best steak in the city, occasionally sloppy live music and a server who says he was the inspiration for the ron burgundy jazz flute moment."
