What's that? You love Friday Fives? Well guess f*cking what. Today you're getting Friday Tens. And it's all coming courtesy of one of our favorite bands, Grouplove. Feel free to thank them via whatever social media platform you prefer. We'd recommend following them on Twitter, or Facebook if you're kind of old.
Today's Friday Fives is unique for a few reasons. First of all, we're getting solid restaurant picks from not one, but two people in the band: lead singer Christian Zucconi, and drummer/producer Ryan Rabin. Ryan handled LA restaurants, and Christian laid it down for New York - and it turns out both of them have excellent taste. We even got some bonus action from Christian in which he created a few Perfect For categories of his own, including "Favorite To-Go Indian and Great Place for Mix Tapes." This is why you aren't in a band. Because you don't even know that Indian food and mix tapes happen in one place. Or at least you didn't before today.
Union Pool (484 Union Ave., Brooklyn, NY) - "During a weeknight, this place is great to hang outside with your friends have some drinks, plus you can see some great bands. During the winter there's a fire pit - that's cool too, and it's much less crowded."
Joe's Pizza (7 Carmine St.) - "This is the only late night spot for me when I'm in Manhattan - my favorite slice in the city. There's a couple of Joe's popping up, but the best is still on 6th Ave."
Ryan Rabin's "Perfect For" Los Angeles Picks
“The same amazing tastes of Sugarfish, but with weirder sushi – like jellyfish.”
“The best Mediterranean food.”
“The Gorbals is in a weird location in an old dilapidated hotel. There are great klezmer bands on Thursdays and amazing food. Be sure to get the long table for big groups.”
“The Varnish is a great cocktail bar in back of a an old sandwich shop called Cole’s.”
“Kimchi pork belly. Ridiculous.”
Christian Zucconi's "Perfect For" New York Picks
“I stumbled in here for the first time after a show we played at the Brooklyn Bowl. A bunch of us piled into the back room where there’s one big table for one “big group.” They have great wine selections and awesome Italian fare, like the giant “cold cut” plate with tons of thin salami and prosciutto. I’ve been back a few times since.”
“Hannah and I had a birthday/moving away party here before driving off to California back in 2010 to start the band – the back “piano bar” room takes me back in time, and their old fashioned’s are strong. Try and get the piano player to play happy birthday, ’cause he won’t!”
"Hannah's crazy great aunt who lived next door introduced her to this spot and now it's our go to when our folks come to town. If you're deaf like we are, this is the perfect place 'cause you can actually hear yourselves talk. Best avocado salad I've ever had!"
