Your familiarity with Bridgit Mendler probably depends on how much late 2000s Disney Channel you've watched. If it's a lot, then you know her from Wizards of Waverly Place and Good Luck Charlie. If it's none, you likely heard her song "Ready Or Not" on the radio many times in 2012, or maybe watched her on TV on Undateable.
In any case, Bridgit's continuing to stay busy. She's ditched the Disney thing and is gearing up to release a hip-hop tinged EP, Nemesis, on November 18th. She also happens to spend a lot of her time eating in her home base of LA. Ahead of her EP release show at The Echoplex on November 15th, she's taking us on a tour of all her favorite adventurous eating spots in Los Angeles. Read about her favorite restaurants below, and get an inside look as she takes over our Instagram too.
"I've ordered sweet shrimp here expecting a single sweet/savory dish. But Ike went above and beyond and gave me not only a plate of succulent shrimp, but also a follow-up dish of tempura battered shrimp shell - eyes included. If you're feeling up for the challenge, and are ok with little crunchier texture than your average sushi with tempura and crispy onions, give this a go."
"This place is unexpected in many ways. Los Angeles likes its hidden gems and this is one of them. Trois Familia is nestled in a strip mall but draws the eye with a rainbow sign and constant crowd out front. The dishes are Mexican-French fusion and look like Dr. Seuss on the plate! They have one of my favorite food Instagram pages too."
"This is a bar, not food, but it's in the back of a deli so if you need a snack, just go up front for one of Cole's famous sandwiches. It again plays into my love of hide and go seek because if you're not seeking, you would never know this place exists. But go to Cole's downtown, head for the wooden door in the back, and open it. It's the Narnia of amazing cocktails and live standup bass."
"This is an awesome coffee hang. First of all, the coffee is AMAZING and it's in a garage and only open for a few hours on a Wednesday. Secondly, you are welcome/expected to chill on the cushy vintage furniture and hang out with the owner and whatever collection of regulars are around. This guy also has delivered beans to my door free of charge on the goodwill that I will compensate through Venmo later."
"Two words: flaming cheese! That isn't the only way you'll be adventurous at The Great Greek though. There is always live music, and generally live dancing. I don't have any Greek in me, or any coordination, but I've definitely attempted to line dance or whatever the appropriate term is. If you just want delicious Greek food, you can also quietly keep to yourself and eat amazing lamb."
