If you subscribe to our monthly Spotify playlist, then you're aware that ASTR is in permanent heavy rotation around Infatuation HQ. After seeing electric front woman Zoe Silverman perform, it comes as no surprise to learn that she met her partner in ASTR crime, music maker Adam Pallin, at yoga class, which is pretty much the 2015 version of saying they're from Williamsburg. Their EP, Varsity, is packed with hits, and features their cover of Drake's "Hold On We're Going Home" you've probably heard by now.
ASTR will be at Governor's Ball 2015, get your tickets now if you haven't already. We'll be there, all weekend, and we're bringing all kinds of #GovBallEEEEEATS with us. Check out The Infatuation curated food lineup.
Until then, eat like ASTR. Their Friday Fives NYC restaurant picks are both well informed and well explained.
ASTR's "Perfect For" Picks
Barrio Chino (253 Broome St.) - "It's a cute place with really great Mexican food. Their small plates of tacos are perfect to share and their habanero grapefruit margaritas are fun and flirty. It's upbeat and intimate, and it's in the Lower East Side so I've been going here a lot lately."
ABC Kitchen (35 E. 18th St.)- "If you really want to ball out, this burger is pretty expensive but what you get for it is front to finish all quality. We're talking akaushi meat (a breed of wagyu cattle), grated cheese, pickled jalapeños, herbed mayo, on a sesame bun. As good as you would expect from ABC standards."
Taza de Oro (CURRENTLY CLOSED) - "For $7 you can get an amazing plate of Puerto rican food. Half a chicken, rice and beans, slice of buttered bread and a glass of water. This place hasn't been touched since the 70s and is one of the last few of its kind in New York City. The best part about this place is the homemade hot sauce that is extremely spicy and one of the reasons I'm so addicted to the place."
Souen (326 E. 6th St.) - "If you are looking for clean, delicious food with lots of nutrients you should try this place. There are 3 locations, and I still haven't decided which is my favorite yet but they are all good. This place is perfect if you are on a cleanse or are trying to be health conscious. The macro plate is really good and so are the juices. In the winter I'm really into getting a soup and their gluten free corn bread with tahini spread."
Late Night Eats
Bubby's (120 Hudson St.) - "For the city that never sleeps, finding food late can actually still be a challenge. Sometimes all you want is french toast after a night of drinking. Bubby's offers a midnight brunch Thursday -Sunday that is pretty wicked. You could get anything from breakfast to fried chicken and they also have a solid selection of pies."
