You might remember a little band named The Strokes that owned New York City for the better part of a decade. Today’s Friday Fives guest, Albert Hammond Jr., is their guitar player, who has also gone on to have a successful solo career. Albert has forever been a man about town, the approachable Stroke who hangs out at all the cool bars, and eats at all the cool restaurants. Over the years, we’ve seen him at Lit, Darkroom, Cabin, Black Market, and most recently, hanging at Infatuation favorite Hudson Clearwater.
Speaking of Hudson Clearwater, Albert is now the official music curator for all the Select Hospitality and Design properties, which include The Heyward in Brooklyn, and Hinterland in Santa Monica. Joe Jonas is also involved. Being that we come from the music business, and curate our own monthly playlist to keep all of you hip to our favorite new songs, you know we fully back restaurants getting musicians involved to make sure their tunes are on point. Hopefully this becomes a trend.
Albert has a new solo album, Momentary Masters, which you can stream here. And while you’re listening to things, here’s a taste of what to expect from Albert’s tune curation at the SH&D restaurants. More Brian Eno please.
albert's "Perfect For" Picks
“The best coffee spot by far is Abraço in NYC. Whenever I’m home I make sure to get down and get my coffee. It’s a little hole in the wall but hopefully one day we’ll build a bigger place.”
“For a date night I always like sushi. It’s my favorite food anyway, and I feel like it always makes for some interesting conversation.”
“Black Market in the East Village is an amazing cheap eat. They have burgers and salads and a whole lot more. The drinks will run your tab up, but I’m told they have some tasty ones.”
“One of my favorite brunch spots is Mogador. Having hummus with your eggs is truly a gift. Their Middle Eastern breakfast is delicious."
"Of course if you go to The Bowery you are bound to see someone famous, or at least people looking around in case. Just look down and the eat the food.”
“I take my parents to ABC Kitchen all the time. It’s one of my favorite places."
"Craft is also amazing, both this and ABC Kitchen have a wonderful aesthetic…something that says ‘don’t worry Mom and Dad, everything is ok.'”
