There isn't a more obvious choice for a Friday Fives than the only legit rapper who is also a serious chef - Queens' own Action Bronson. Bronson, who's father is Albanian and mother a local Brooklyn Jew, takes his #EEEEEATS as seriously as he does his beard, two things we can relate to here at The Infatuation. Action started cooking at a young age, helping his mother and grandmother in the kitchen with everything from stews and goulash to stuffed cabbage. He's worked at numerous restaurants over the years, even cooking for the Mets at one point.
Let's cut right to the chase - you want to know where Action eats. Here are his NYC "Perfect For" picks.
action's "Perfect For" Picks
"You can always catch me at the halal truck on 73rd and Broadway, right in front of the Kabab King. I get the lamb over rice with the pita bread, the green sauce, the white sauce, and the red sauce. All of the sauces man. All of 'em. After that, I go to the Kabab King for dessert. They have the best gulab jaman ever. They're like little balls of deep fried sugar balls filled with a milk and sugar concoction. It's fucking delicious."
"That's my place in Brooklyn. Sometimes you got to celebrate with a nice big steak. This is the way a real steakhouse is supposed to be. Some people can't afford it, you know, so it's always nice to be able to treat someone to a meal like this who wouldn't normally be able to eat like this."
"I'm addicted to salmon. I need it. I can't eat salmon cooked. But raw, I'm like a motherfucking bear. I only want to eat salmon. The taste is so luxurious to me. I love raw scallop too. Before this year, I didn't eat raw fish, and now that I got put onto it, I can't stop. I can't tolerate uni though. I've eaten a lot of sushi all around the world and the best sushi I've had ever is at Bond St. It's all about the way the fish tastes - the tartness to the rice and the way the grains are separated, but together. It's Bond Street man. That's my favorite place. Better than Morimoto. If someone can show me something better, I'd be down to go grub with them.
"And speaking of luxurious meals, New York Sushi Ko is one of the best I've ever had. It's my friend's spot, and I just have to tell the chef to chill on the uni because he loves the uni. How they drip the rendered tuna fat all over the raw tuna is genius."
"My baby girl likes tacos, so our date spot is always Pio Pio. They have Peruvian chicken, fried yucca fries and a hot dog and french fry combination that's all fried together to make a lovely combination of life."
“Yo, this place doesn’t have a name. It’s a little Dominican bakery on the corner of Christina Blvd and Union Turnpike that all the locals know about. The Okra with pickled red onions on top is insane. They have the best goat stew, oh my God. The best empanadas. It’s an amazing place. You’ve got to get there early or else they sell out of all the good stuff.”
