The Best Things To Eat at Dodger Stadium

PHOTO: Holly Liss

It's that time of year again. The days are longer, the sun is hotter, and Friday's are always a half day - it's summer. And that means America's favorite pastime (baseball) is back in full swing.

Here in LA, we're lucky to be home to one of the better baseball stadiums in the country - Dodger Stadium. Whether you gives two shits about the actual game or not, nothing beats a relaxing day with friends, some beer, and what's sure to be another rousing rendition of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". And thanks to an overhauled concession stand program, Dodger Stadium is home to some pretty delicious food too. So put down that sad plate of chips and Cheez Whiz and go find some food with substance. Here is everything you need to be eating at Dodger Stadium.

1. Smoked BBQ Wings

Even by ballpark standards, this 15 wing bundle is a true beast. Order this thing during that early in the game lull and feed yourself, your row, and the row behind you. Not that anyone’s complaining - these things might just be the best things in the park. Perfectly seasoned and doused in just the right amount of smoky BBQ sauce. If you think you grabbed enough napkins, you didn’t.

2. Cast Iron Cornbread and Fried Chicken

So last night got a little wild, and suddenly that 2pm first pitch is looking less and less ideal. Fear not. Splurge on a Dodgers membership ($4 a game) and gain access into the Stadium Club Bar where you’ll not only be greeted with AC, but this insanely good (jalapeño) cornbread and fried chicken dish that’ll go a long ways towards your hangover cure.

3. Dodger Dog

Let a classic be a classic. One of the most recognizable stadium concession snacks around, if you go to Dodger Stadium and don’t get a Dodger Dog, you might as well not even tell people you went. They’re served plain, so hit that condiment bar and hit it hard.

Where To Get It: Literally everywhere.

4. Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich

Something’s in the water (or more likely the BBQ sauce) over at Think Blue BBQ. Here we have another must-order from this little concession stand behind left field in the Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich. BBQ pork smoked in-house for over 10 hours topped with red onions and pickles, all on a potato bun. It’s all you’ve ever needed when it’s bottom of the 8th and nobody’s scored yet.

5. Specialty Nachos Verde

MLB stadiums aren’t what you’d consider shrines to the vegetarian lifestyle, but this is LA, so Dodger Stadium is obviously doing the healthy thing well. Though it might not look like much on the plate, their Specialty Nachos Verde is one our favorite meatless options in the park. The fresco Cotija queso sprinkled on top is excellent, but it’s that tomatillo verde salsa mixed with the salt from the chips that’ll have you back in line in no time.

6. Pastrami Burger

So you hit the beer a little too hard in the early innings and now you need some sustenance. Let the Pastrami Burger be your answer. A Wagyu beef patty topped with at least two feet of pastrami, drizzled Thousand Island, and a heaping pile of fries sitting next to it. If this doesn’t soak up the booze for you, you’re simply out of luck.

7. King's Hawaiian Dog

It’s a tough gig waking up as a hotdog at Dodger Stadium and not being a Dodger Dog. That said, other great dogs certainly exist. And one of our favorites is the King’s Hawaiian Dog. Topped with pineapple salsa, this is definitely on the sweeter side of things and we’re into it. Oh, and the bun? King’s Hawaiian Bread. And that’s simply a food you don't turn down.

8. Carne Asada Fries

What’s a baseball game without a little take-home souvenir? Several Dodger Stadium concession snacks come in a plastic baseball cap, but your move needs to be the Carne Asada Fries. Make sure you grab some forks though, no one needs to see you licking Cheez Whiz off your pinky during the national anthem.

9. Wagyu Gouda Burger

Your day at the ballpark is going great until you get that one bad hamburger and everything falls apart. So go straight for the Wagyu Gouda Burger instead. Topped with caramelized onions and every ounce of Thousand Island this side of the 101, this burger has no business being as good as it is, but we're certainly not complaining.

Where To Get It: Elysian Park Grill - Reserve 31 and 32, Field 22 and 23, Loge 136

10. Raspado "Mexican Shaved Ice"

So, Snapchat just told you it’s 99 degrees outside and you feel dizzy. Time for a cool down. Head back into the Stadium Club and order a quick round of the Raspado “mexican shaved ice”. Choose between pineapple, strawberry, or mango flavors (hint: get the mango), and live your best heat wave life.

11. Brooklyn Dodger Dog

Don’t look now, but the Dodger Dog has more competition. The East Coast brother to the Dodger Stadium mainstay, the real difference between the two is all in the bite down. The Brooklyn version has a thicker casing giving it a much-needed crunch and to a lot of people (like us), that’s a good thing.

Where To Get It: Literally everywhere

12. Zucchini Cinnamon Cake

The reality is you hate baseball, and you’re only here because your boyfriend washed your car this week or someone in your office keeps insisting team building retreats are the answer. Screw that, you’re on a mission to find the best dessert in the park. Hint - it’s the Zucchini Cinnamon Cake at the Stadium Club Bar. Bourbon vanilla syrup, cream cheese ice cream, and sweet carrot puree. Any questions?

13. Pepperoni Pizza

How does that phrase go again? Pizza is like sex - even when it’s bad it’s still pretty good? That’s the one. This isn't life-changing pizza by any means, but you’re also hammered at a ballpark on a Sunday - you just want pizza that tastes like pizza. And this is definitely that.

14. Chili-Topped Beef Tamales

This Tommy’s Burger-inspired tamale is particularly useful because it’s not easily shareable and you’re sick of everyone around you stealing your food. These are your tamales and nobody else's.

Where To Get It: LA Taqueria, Reserve 13

15. Shock Top Bratwurst

Cook anything in beer and we’ll be there. Cook a spicy pork bratwurst in Shock Top and serve it on a buttered roll, and we'll be back as soon as we finish the first one we ordered.
