Show solidarity with the Black community by putting your money straight into Black-owned businesses. One incredibly important, tangible way to show up is by supporting Black-owned restaurants, which is why we’ve put together this list of Chicago’s Black-owned restaurants, organized by neighborhood.

This is not just a list of Black-owned restaurants we should all be supporting today, or tomorrow, or next week. These are restaurants that we should be supporting, always. This guide is just one step. We'll be updating this list frequently, so please email us at chicago@theinfatuation.com to let us know of any restaurants that should be included and we’ll work to get them added as quickly as possible.

Hopefully, this list is helpful. But the following sites have been compiling Black-owned guides for years, and are go-to resources for Black-owned restaurant information: Black Chicago Eats, Black People Eats, Seasoned And Blessed, and Chicago Black Restaurant Week.

Please also consider donating to organizations fighting for racial justice - like the ACLU, NAACP, Know Your Rights Camp, Black Visions Collective, and Reclaim The Block, as well as My Block, My Hood, My City.

  • 6978 Soul Food: As the name suggests, 6978 Soul Food focuses on soul food, which you can get for carryout and delivery.

  • Oooh Wee It Is: This former sweet tea spot expanded into a cereal bar and soul food joint. This place has live music weekly, and is open for brunch and dinner.

  • Roy's Soul Food: A soul food breakfast and lunch spot with hearty portions.

  • Lem’s BBQ: One of Chicago's most famous BBQ spots. Takeout-only.

  • Soul Veg City: Formerly known as The Original Soul Vegetarian, this vegan Southern and soul food restaurant has been “serving food as medicine” in Chatham for over 40 years.

  • The Woodlawn: This American restaurant has a great rooftop.

  • Ms. T’s Southern Fried Chicken: Counter-spot spot that's vailable for carryout by calling 773-728-2500 or delivery online.

  • Batter & Berries: A breakfast spot that's known for it's French toast flights. Check out their Instagram for specials.

  • Krazy Hog: This BBQ spot was originally in the suburbs, but has reopened for delivery and takeout only in Lincoln Park.

  • Kitchen + Kocktails: This upscale River North restaurant serves Southern dishes like pork chops, blackened fish, gumbo, and crab cakes.

  • Bocadillo Market: This is a wonderful Spanish cafe and restaurant with a charming back patio.

  • Brunch N Burgers: A casual spot focusing on (you guessed it) burgers and weekend brunch.

West Town/Wicker Park

  • Dr Bird's: A Jamaican restaurant with wonderful Jamaican patties, jerk chicken, and incredibly friendly service. Also has a great weekend brunch.

  • Soulé: One of our favorite soul food restaurants in Chicago. Make a reservation for dine in, or call 312-526-3825 to place an order for takeout.

  • Mr. Brown’s Lounge: Both delivery and carryout are available. Call them at 773-278-4445 or order directly from their website.

  • Ina Mae Tavern: This spot focuses on New Orleans-inspired food. Check out their Instagram for specials.

  • Frontier: A lodge-type restaurant with a great patio, wood-burning fireplace, and lots of game (like buffalo) on the menu.
