NYC’s Best Take-Out Desserts To Pair With Red Wine

Vivienne Gucwa

It’s winter, the cold has settled in, and all you want is chocolate and a glass of red. Yeah, we all made some kind of “resolution” to “eat healthy” or “exercise more,” but when it’s freezing outside and you had a long week, it's also OK to just stay in and park it on the couch. As part of our 2016 Infatuation Cold Weather Survival Guide, and in partnership with our friends at Motto Wines, here's our guide to NYC’s Best Take-Out Desserts To Pair With Red Wine. Motto’s big bold reds are perfect for any occasion, and pair especially well with some of our favorite take-home sweets.

Baked 279 Church St

These whoopie pies from Baked are some of the best in New York. The original Baked is out in Red Hook, but they now have a Tribeca location you definitely need to know about. This is why Postmates exists.

Pair with: "Unabashed" Zinfandel

Whether you’re trying to supply sweets for your friends' The Bachelor viewing party, or you’re looking to house a box of four cupcakes on your own, we support you. In such scenarios, Little Cupcake Bakeshop in Nolita is our go-to. Their cupcakes are excellent, as are the cookies and cakes.

Orwasher's Bakery 308 E 78th St

Orwasher’s, an old school Upper East Side bread-maker and bakery, offers something very special: the ability to fill the center of your own jelly donut, resulting in the best jelly donut you'll ever eat. There are jam guns of all different kind of flavors, just waiting to be drilled into the donut of your choice. It's like Color Me Mine, but for food.

Pair with: “Backbone” Cabernet Sauvignon

Compartes

(Various Locations)

You know what pairs perfectly with a California red? Chocolate. Specifically, chocolate made by California-based Compartes. The bars come in flavors like Caramelized Popcorn and Cereal Bowl, and are wrapped up in some highly appealing, brightly colored packaging.

Pair with: “Gung Ho” Red Blend

Maman 239 Centre St

We consider ourselves big time chocolate chip cookie connoisseurs here at The Infatuation, and one of our favorites below 14th Street is at Maman Bakery. It’s a gooey, thick, chocolate chip monster with lots of nuts. Think Levain, but not quite as dense. But still pretty dense. For best results, heat them up once you get home, and pour yourself a glass of red.

Pair with: "Unabashed" Zinfandel

Petee's Pie Company 61 Delancey St

Chocolate pie is a lost art. When was the last time you had some when it wasn’t at your aunt’s house for a holiday? Petee’s Pie Company makes the best chocolate pie we’ve had in New York, and well worth a trip to the Lower East Side to pick one up.

Pair with: “Backbone” Cabernet Sauvignon

Bibble & Sip 253 W 51st St

Bibble & Sip's offerings look pretty incredible in photos, and we were surprised to see they taste even better than they look. The Earl Grey Cream Puffs, which explode with a highly flavorful custard, are what you want to get.
