Frenchette Is Opening For Outdoor Dining & More Restaurant NYC News
NYC restaurant news you can use from the week of 8/3/20.

New Summer Pop-Ups To Know About

  • A sushi spot called Rosella that’s planning to open on Avenue A in the fall is serving a special 15-course omakase dinner at Rooftop Reds in the Brooklyn Navy Yard every Saturday night in August. Tickets are sold in pairs for $150, and you can reserve yours here.

  • Yardy, a Caribbean catering company, is now offering delivery and takeout out of the Soho Smile To Go location on Howard Street from noon to 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays. Check out the menu of things like shrimp skewers, tamarind ginger chicken, and a galette with caramelized onion and chayote squash - and place your order here.

  • Check out more summer 2020 pop-ups on our guide here.

This Week in “Hey, That’s Freaking Great"

  • Short Stories on Bowery is now offering pay-what-you-want vegan curry bowls every Wednesday for any New Yorker who needs it - especially in the wake of the federal unemployment aid changes. We wrote more about the project (and their outdoor dining) here.

More Restaurants Are Opening For Outdoor Dining

What Else Is Happening

  • There’s a new live music bar in Crown Heights called Wild Birds with outdoor tables and different performers every night. Wild Birds is also hosting oyster and jazz nights on Thursdays from 4pm to 10pm where you can get a half-dozen oysters for $15 and drink frozen cocktails while you bob your head along to a saxophone solo. Check out their menu and schedule here.

  • Frenchette in Tribeca announced that they are reopening for outdoor dining on Tuesday, August 11th. You can book your table ahead of time here.

  • A new restaurant in Williamsburg opened this Friday called Strangeways, and it’s the first spot we’ve seen to open with no indoor dining room whatsoever. Rightfully so - their garden on Metropolitan Avenue can fit 90 socially-distanced seats. Follow Strangeways on Instagram for more information on reservations and their eclectic Japanese, American, and Middle Eastern inspired menu.

  • Time Out Market reopened this week in Dumbo with seven food vendors and two bars (including Jacob’s Pickles, Fish Cheeks, and Ice & Vice). You can eat your takeout at one of the outdoor tables on their roof, or hang out in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

  • Unfortunately, more NYC restaurants have closed this week - including Oda House in the East Village and -The Awkward Scone in Bushwick. We’re updating our guide every day with new information - and if you have a (sad) tip, you can email us at nyc@theinfatuation.com.

And Now, Grocery & Picnic Updates To Text Your Friend About

  • If you want to improve your picnic next to the Hudson River about 500% better, you should know that New York Biltong on Greenwich Avenue is now open and selling biltong and South African sausage rolls.

  • There’s a new bakery on 9th Street in the East Village called Elisa’s Love Bites (they used to have an original location in Brooklyn). Everything in the store is gluten free, like flourless brownies and almond butter cookies.
