If you don’t know how to make a proper Cosmopolitan, Espresso Martini, or Blue Hawaii, that’s entirely understandable. Here’s how to do it.
How many times have you had a Cosmopolitan? Think hard, because a lot of those times might have been in the 90s (or at least at 90s-themed parties, back when you attended such things). And, unfortunately, most of your Cosmos probably weren’t great. But we have an updated version that makes one key change while still maintaining the cocktail’s vibrant pink color that says, “Drink me because I’m fun.” And that isn’t the only new-and-improved drink in today’s lesson - we’re also going to show you how to make a proper (and simple) Espresso Martini, as well as the vibrant teal cocktail known as the Blue Hawaii. Both will help you achieve a healthier work/life balance.
A real Espresso Martini (invented by bartender Dick Bradsell in the 1980s) is an exercise in minimalism. It doesn’t have chocolate sauce dripping down the side. It also doesn’t have any cream, whipped or not. And it actually tastes like espresso. The secret? Good espresso.

You may know this drink from various episodes of Sex and the City - but the Cosmos on that show were never the right color (sorry, props department), and we’re going to make one key adjustment. Instead of cranberry juice, we’re going to use a small handful of raspberries. This makes for an infinitely better cocktail.
The Blue Hawaii is a pretty standard sweet/sour cocktail that shares a lot of characteristics with something like a Margarita. It’s objectively delicious when made correctly, and we’d also like to stress the fact that drinking a blue drink is a rewarding and exhilarating experience on par with parasailing or leaving your home for the first time in several days.
There are all sorts of Martinis out there, and here are a few of our favorites for you to make at home.
A Negroni is one of the best drinks on the planet. Once you master it, try a White Negroni, Rosé Negroni, or a Negroni with rum and cold brew.
You should make one of these for the alliteration alone. But if that isn’t reason enough, this drink will also impress anyone who enters your home.
