The Smith

(312)-312-5100

400 N Clark St

Chicago, IL 60654

The Smith’s whole reason for existing is seemingly to cater to groups who can’t make a decision. It’s a mini-chain based out of New York with a menu apparently designed to appeal to the largest amount of people possible. You’ll find a range of options like burgers, salads, pizza, pastas, fried chicken, bibimbap, steak, and mac and cheese. The food isn’t going to blow you away, but it’s just fine. So the next time you’re outside Nordstrom Rack debating restaurant choices with your mom, sister, sister’s best friend, and your mom’s Zumba instructor/maybe girlfriend, go here.

Have you ever been in a room for 10 minutes before noticing someone else was in there with you? That inoffensive blend-into-the-scenery person is The Smith, a mini-chain restaurant based out of New York. Its menu and space are designed to appeal to the largest amount of people possible, including children. So come here next time your entire family is in River North and wants a range of options like burgers, salads, pizza, fried chicken, bibimbap, steak, and mac and cheese, plus maybe some crayons and a high chair.

All the tourists and office workers in River North make the neighborhood full of plan-less groups of people who need a place to grab dinner. That’s when a restaurant like The Smith comes in handy. This place has tons of space, and a ridiculously long menu full of options like burgers, salads, pizza, pastas, fried chicken, bibimbap, and steak. While the food isn’t going to change your life, it’s fine, and everyone will be able to find something they want. So, the next time you’re near the Grand Red Line stop looking for a place to eat with colleagues and/or people holding bags from the American Girl Doll store, come here.

The Smith’s whole reason for existing is to appeal to the largest amount of people possible. This means you’ll find a somewhat absurd range of options at this River North spot - for example, churro waffles, breakfast pot pie, a variety of omelets, vanilla French toast, and (just to cover all the bases) calamari. And even though the food isn’t going to blow you away, it’s all pretty tasty. So the next time you’re outside Nordstrom Rack debating restaurant choices with your mom, sister, sister’s best friend, and her dog walker, go here.

Unlike most of your family get-togethers, The Smith will offend the fewest people possible. That’s what this River North restaurant’s wide-ranging menu is designed for, making it an excellent choice for taking out visiting relatives who don’t always agree on everything. The holiday dinner includes three different turkey options (osso bucco, roasted, and a pot pie), and even the most chronically malcontented in your gene pool should be able to find something on the menu. Assuming everyone is still talking to each other by the end of the weekend, you might as well also come here for Sunday brunch.

The meal: Three-course $49

“I’m not ready for a relationship right now” is what you say to someone who is perfectly nice, but ultimately boring. That’s exactly the case with The Smith, a restaurant in River North with a giant bar and just fine food and drinks. In fact, if you ask someone to meet you here with little to no explanation, they’ll know what’s going to happen.

The Smith is a mini-chain based out of New York, and this is the kind of utility place designed to appeal to the largest amount of people possible. You’ll find a range of options like burgers, salads, pizza, pastas, fried chicken, bibimbap, steak, and mac and cheese. The food isn’t going to blow anyone away, but it won’t make anyone angry, either. You can almost always get a table, and there’s a large bar area in case one of the people you’re trying to please tends to order wine as their lunch.
