Taylor's Tacos
Taylor’s Tacos has a familiar origin story: it began as a pop-up, moved operations to a shared kitchen, and finally graduated to a brick-and-mortar of its own. What isn’t so familiar? It’s Chicago’s first Black-owned, female-owned, queer-owned taco shop. This counter-service spot feels airy, with soft peach, pink, and wood tones, and large windows that flood the small space with light. They have a short menu of tacos with fillings like chicken, steak, shrimp, sweet potato, and a weekly special like fish or asparagus. The tacos are small but stuffed, so you’ll definitely be able to make use of the double-stacked tortillas (which happen to be delicious, despite being a little greasy). Our favorite is the sweet potato—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly balanced with salsa, cilantro, hot sauce, and pickled red cabbage. Keep in mind there are only five tables, and its proximity to the Medical District means that if you visit during lunch you should be prepared to get your order to go.
