Steadfast

120 W Monroe St

Chicago, IL 60603

Sometimes you need a fancy lunch, and that’s when a place like Steadfast comes in handy. It’s an upscale restaurant in the Kimpton Hotel, and has the kind of mid-century feel that will satisfy anyone who secretly wishes they could still smoke on planes, and not have to hide the bottle of scotch in their office. Everything they serve is nicely plated, and the food - especially the house-baked breads, seafood, and variety of salads - is really good. But we’re pretty sure Joseph McCarthy probably never ordered a broccoli salad for _his _ martini lunch.

You need someplace to take a client who has very little imagination and/or a vintage scotch collection. That’s when Steadfast comes in handy. It’s an upscale restaurant in the Kimpton Hotel and has the kind of mid-century feel that’s slightly formal. Everything they serve is nicely plated and the classic breakfast dishes - like waffles and eggs benedict - are really good.

Steadfast is in the Kimpton hotel, and this place really feels like a hotel restaurant. For example, you have to leave the restaurant, climb two flights of stairs, and go down a long hallway to get to the bathroom. That aside, this is still a good option for a fancy meal in the Loop. They have prettily plated entrees, caviar service, and a tasting menu option - five courses for $75, or seven courses for $115. If you commit to that, just try to remember to pee ahead of time.

This is where you go for classic dishes like clams casino, lobster thermidor, and steak. Just remember that if you decide to come here, factor in how long a bathroom trip will take before you leave.
