Southern Twang is a new delivery-only spot in Humboldt Park, specializing in Southern food. They have a variety of egg rolls (like mac and cheese or lobster mac), great po’boys, and our favorite dish - the shrimp and cheese grits. The fried shrimp have a tasty garlic breading, the cheesy grits are thick with cheddar, and it’s all topped with andouille chicken sausage and caramelized peppers and onions. It’s like the food equivalent of a snowsuit, which helps when it’s 8 degrees outside.

Southern Twang is a new delivery-only spot in Humboldt Park, and as the name suggests, they focus on Southern food. Our favorite dish here is the shrimp and cheese grits, which is the most filling rendition of this dish we’ve ever had. The shrimp are coated in a garlic breading and the cheesy grits are thick with cheddar. Thrown into the mix are spicy andouille chicken sausage and caramelized peppers and onions. It’s like the food equivalent of a snowsuit.

We recently discovered this new carryout and delivery-only restaurant in Humboldt Park. Southern Twang quickly started appearing on a lot of our guides - like The Best Things We Ate This Week. And for Restaurant Week, Southern Twang is offering your choice of a $39 or $55 dinner, with dishes like grilled salmon with basil gravy, sides like mac and cheese and collard greens, and cinnamon roll beignets for dessert.

Shrimp Po’ Boy

The first time we ordered from Southern Twang was a few weeks ago while researching our list of New Black-Owned Restaurants. The second time was on Fat Tuesday, when we had a craving for a shrimp po’boy. Despite the snow, Southern Twang was still open, and luckily we have four-wheel drive. We paired our tasty po’boy with a side of mac and cheese, and for 15 blissful minutes forgot that we live in a climate that necessitates four-wheel drive.
