Nightshade
This Portage Park underground bar is located in Moonflower’s basement, and is like its darker, brooding sibling. But instead of death metal, their playlist is an eclectic mix of everything from classic jazz to steel drum covers of hip-hop tracks. Unlike Moonflower, this place is much smaller, with only a handful of tables, a smaller bar area, and significantly less lighting. They also have a different cocktail menu, which includes a savory drink made with poblano and tortilla chips, and one inspired by the Korean dessert, bingsu. They don't have many food options aside from snacks like olives and parmesan fries, so we recommend grabbing a grilled cheese upstairs before making your way down.
