When you need a reliable date spot or want to eat juicy Iberico pork while your parents subject you to multiple rounds of 20 Questions (you might need some wine), head to Le Sud in Roscoe Village. This busy Mediterranean spot is charming, with walls of decorative china, a vintage-looking tin ceiling, and a chalkboard above the bar with some French sayings. But even if you flunked French 101, you can still appreciate the seasonal menu full of good food, like plump scallops or comforting chicken tagine. Plus, since Le Sud has a summer sidewalk patio and rooftop, and enough decorations during the winter to fill you up with three years-worth of holiday cheer, it’s a great place to visit year-round.

Food Rundown

Seared Scallops

These perfectly cooked seafood pillows have a nice sweetness that pairs well with some nutty black lentils. And thanks to some smoky chorizo broth, each bite has a satisfying salty and meaty punch.

Iberico Pork

This would be a dream Thanksgiving plate—no turkey required. We’d gladly eat a whole plate of the pork by itself, but the meat tastes even better with creamy parmigiano reggiano mashed potatoes and a tangy apricot chutney to complement its butteriness.

Chicken Tagine

This stew is extremely comforting, with fluffy couscous, warming spices like cinnamon and paprika, and sweet apricots and raisins. But we’d like to personally thank the chicken for its devotion to excellence—it’s cooked to tender perfection and has a satisfyingly crispy skin.
