Don’t underestimate this small Edgewater ramen shop next to the Thorndale Red Line—despite its size, Kohoku-ku Ramen has personality. The colorful dining room is decked out in vibrant koi kites, empty sake barrels, and little curtains hanging from private booths that are perfect if you feel self-conscious about your noodle-slurping face. Their straightforward shoyu and tonkatsu bowls are great, but if you want a unique bowl, the spicy specialty ramen with soft shell crab and fried shrimp is good, too. Kohoku-ku isn’t usually too busy, so it’s perfect for a relaxed dinner after a long day and/or a ride on the L.
