Doc B’s is like crack-infused kale. It’s good, and we can appreciate why you might be addicted, but it’s not as cool as you think, so don't tell everyone you're a regular user. Of Doc B's, not kale crack. Drugs are bad, stay in school.
The “fresh casual” restaurant is about as formulaic as it gets these days, but Doc B’s does it well, so there’s something to be said for that. It’s modern and pretty with a bit of an industrial vibe, complete with a menu comprised of what we'll call "health conscious" rather than "health crazed" food. Even though Doc B's is touted as healthy, there's only a 50/50 chance you'll order something that actually is. Sure, you can get a salad, but you can also get a burger or rich, cheesy artichoke dip.
This location is below Nordstrom and the rest of the Shops at North Bridge, so tourists and people with shopping addictions are a good chunk of the crowd. Groups of women in their 20's and 30's have a heavy presence too, and odds are you'll see these ladies propped over salads and glasses of wine (the other location is across from Bloomingdales in the Gold Coast and attracts a similar crowd).
Overall, Doc B's is a good middle of the road place for River North - nicer and more of a real restaurant than the fast-casual chains, but not as full- blown sceney and expensive as everything else around. So yes, between the food and the gap it fills, we're in on Doc B's. Just don't run around telling people it's your favorite restaurant, because you may have a problem if that's the case.
Fresh and deicious guacamole with sweet potato chips. Don't be afraid to ask for more chips.
Our favorite appetizer. Thick-cut pieces of polenta with a bit of a crisp on the outside but creamy on the inside. The spicy tomato and pesto dipping sauces are excellent too.
Like spinach artichoke dip, but cooler, because it's kale. Always reliable and good for sharing.
It's fine, but generic. Served with a parmigiano reggiano vinaigrette.
Seared ahi tuna, avocado, mango, and ginger dressing over field greens. The mango is a nice touch and it's our favorite salad overall.
Same thing as above but on a bun and with sliced apple instead of mango.
Burger with cheddar, pickle, white onion, and thousand island. Not bad if you want to be different from the rest of your friends eating salad.
The go-to if you aren't sure what else to order. Basically build your own bowl with a rice, noodle, or quinoa base. We like to go with the sesame teriyaki chicken with veggies over brown rice.
