Croissant Breakfast Sandwich
In the words of a famous Chicagoan, “Hurry up with my damn croissants!” But please don’t actually say this to the nice people at Butterdough in McKinley Park. I warn you though, the airy, buttery croissants will make you wanna curse. The pastries alone are good, but when they put bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and herbed ranch on said croissant? I was hooked. But get there early, ’cause once they’re gone, they’re gone - and they sell out quick.
The main reason to go to Butterdough in McKinley Park is for their fantastic pastries. Seriously, the baked goods here are life-changing. That said, their coffee is good too, and nothing goes better with flaky croissants and buttery homemade biscuits than an Americano on their nice sidewalk patio.
There are only a few flavors of donuts to choose from at Butterdough in McKinley Park. But that’s fine, the horchata is what you want. The lightly-spiced glaze is poured on the donut right in front of you and pools in the container in a satisfying (and useful for extra dipping) way. The donut itself has an almost flaky texture and is very airy inside - which makes sense this place has some of the best croissants in the city.
Two of my good friends recently moved to McKinley Park, and shortly afterwards kept telling me about Butterdough’s outstanding croissants and pastries. Sure enough, I checked it out and these pastries are indeed spectacular. Same with their horchata donut (which ended up on our best donuts guide). And when our contributor Courtney Sprewer recommended their breakfast sandwich as one of the best things she’d eaten recently, it became official: this place is awesome.
