Bluebird in Portage Park makes great burgers and sandwiches. And though this casual sit-down spot also has entrees like risotto, our favorite dishes are handhelds that let you reenact baby Simba’s presentation scene from the opening of The Lion King. The burger's juicy patties are made with a trifecta of brisket, sirloin, and short rib, and have toppings like bacon jam or duck fat fried mushrooms. There are 14 different sandwiches on the menu, with options like shrimp po' boys and Philly cheesesteaks. There’s potential for indecision, but the Bluebird with crispy fried chicken, bacon, and honey mustard on a chewy pretzel bun is a great go-to. The bright interior has room for groups, but you can also grab a seat at the bar. Plus, they have a back patio that's nice and quiet.
