9 Exciting Things To Do & Eat In Chicago This Week

Tortas ahogadas, parties with sausage and beer, bottomless brunches, and yes, Lollapalooza - we’ve got details on all of those things, and more events happening in Chicago between July 27th and August 3rd. If you’re looking for plans, parties, and pop-ups around the city, you’ve come to the right place.
The Stuff:
Alt Economy
Alt Economy is an organization started by Chef Jennifer Kim (formerly of Passerotto) designed to explore equity through dinner series and pop-ups. And after going on a five-city summer tour, they’re hosting a homecoming pop-up on July 29 at Horner Park from 6-9pm. They’ll have music, food, drinks, and pastries from local chefs. Limón Y Sal
Another fun pop-up happening this week is from Limón y Sal, who specialize in pozole rojo estilo jalisco. This Sunday they’re hosting Tortas y Tianguis at 2701 Homan in Little Village. It’s a pop up mini-market where they’ll be making tortas ahogadas and selling food, drinks, and crafts from other local vendors.The pop-up goes from 1-5pm, and you can pre-order your torta here.
One last pop-up to hit this weekend: The Crosstown Sausage Party. L&M Fine Foods and Dutchbag Brewing are collaborating at Easy Does It in Logan Square. Starting at 1pm, you can stop in and get sausages, beer, and cheese plates. In other words, a Chicagoan’s perfect summer treat.

Baker Miller, one of our favorite bakeries in the city, has finally opened for indoor dining. They still have a back patio and takeout window - but we’re happy to report you can come here and read your emails while eating oatmeal and toast from the comfort of their dining room.

After being closed for the majority of the pandemic, Kumiko (the upscale cocktail bar and restaurant in the West Loop) is now taking reservations for indoor dining. They will begin dine-in service on Friday, August 6th, and you can book a table here.

Another spot that has reopened for dine-in service. Superkhana is now serving dinner Wed-Sun inside their dining room. Also worth noting is that they’re doing brunch for the very first time.
Time Out Market, the food hall in the West Loop, now has bottomless brunch with live jazz every Sunday from 11am–3pm. How does this work in a food hall you ask? Each vendor will have a brunch dish (their regular menu will be available too) and you can get bottomless mimosas from the bar. See the full menu here.
Lollapalooza
Did you hear? Chicago is hosting a music festival from July 29th to August 1st. And for some mysterious reason, unlike past years, Lollapalooza isn’t sold out and tickets are still available. So if you can show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test, it is indeed something you can do this week.
Lollapalooza After Shows
If you want to see some of the Lollapolooza acts, but don’t want to buy tickets and/or like to pee in flushable toilets, head to an after-show instead. Lots of artists are performing in venues around the city, like the Metro, Lincoln Hall, or Bottom Lounge. For the full list of shows and to purchase tickets, check here.
