While the pandemic has caused a lot of restaurants to close, some places we thought we’d lost forever are finding new life as delivery-only spots. Krazy Hog is one of these, and we couldn’t be happier that it’s back. In fact, we’re pretty sure you should order from this BBQ place this weekend.
Krazy Hog used to be in Glenwood, and, after Covid forced them to close last March, they were able to reopen as a virtual restaurant in Lincoln Park. Their journey is documented in Southside Magnolia, a very moving short film that would make us like this place no matter how good the food is. But it turns out, the food is great.
Their BBQ menu has things like ribs, rib tips, pulled pork, sides that are almost better than the meat (we happen to be Team Sides, and the mac and cheese is Patrick Mahomes), and from-scratch sauces that are one big reason we’d order from Krazy Hog over another BBQ spot. They have several varieties of sauce - Krazy original, ’Bama white, Carolina honey, Texas heat, and (our personal favorite) the magnolia sweet, which is almost like a jam. All of them magically enhance the tender, smoky meat. But if we had to build a roster, it would be baby back ribs with the original, pulled pork with the magnolia sweet, and ’Bama white with the chicken wings.
Will the food make up for the fact that the Bears didn’t draft Mahomes when we had the chance? Maybe not, but it will definitely make watching the big game (or Puppy Bowl, or whatever) a little better.
